But it’s in nowhere near as nice condition. He bought itabout four years ago because he had never seen one. Bought it from the original owner who parked it in 1965 because it spun a bearing and scored the crank. Both Goliath-Borgward dealers on the east coast had closed by then and he couldn’t get parts to fix it. Now it’s awaiting an EA65/5speed swap. Apparently Subaru got their Boxer 4 ideas from Goliath-Borgward

Imagine a tiny German wagon with high-revving, carbureted Subaru power. In a package that weighs about 1800 lbs the 85-100 hp he has planned for the 1.6 Subaru engine will make it scream.

That’s really cool. Those cars are pretty rare in the U.S. Is it badged as a Goliath? I’ve seen them as Hansas, too. A Subaru swap is a good idea. That is where the Subie flat four has its origins.

It’s badged as a Goliath 1100 and the brochures -he has all the 1960 brochures - have Borgward on them.

Strange little car.

Yeah, they’re oddballs for sure. Some pretty clever engineering on them for what they were trying to achieve at the time.
